Guenter Rieger previously served as Mayor of the Township of Spallumcheen from 1989 to 1996. During his time in office, he participated in the Township’s 1992 Centennial celebrations and worked with the City of Armstrong through joint council workshops.

Rieger has also been involved with a number of community, service and charitable organizations, including the Armstrong Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus.

In the 2026 municipal election, Rieger is seeking to return as Mayor of Spallumcheen. His stated priorities include strengthening collaboration between Spallumcheen and Armstrong, protecting agricultural land, supporting responsible growth and development, and maintaining municipal services while considering the impact on taxpayers.

He has expressed concerns regarding high-density development in Spallumcheen’s South East Sector and says he wants to preserve the Township’s agricultural character and heritage while improving communication and cooperation with neighbouring Armstrong.
